We are delighted to have been sent this collection We are delighted to have been sent this collection of glass plate and film negatives, which we believe date back to the 1930’s. The negatives include images of the interior and exterior of the Castle, showing intricate details of some of the internal features at the time and also documenting the demolition of parts of the building during this period. We will be getting the collection digitised and look forward to sharing the results with you in the future. #lambtonparkuk
As we come to the end of our first summer opening As we come to the end of our first summer opening season here at Lambton Park, we very much hope you have enjoyed exploring the new permissive footpaths around the Estate and would like to take the opportunity to thank all those who have visited.
The footpaths will be closed to visitors for the winter season from the last Sunday in September. Although the seasonal routes will be closed; behind the scenes we will be undertaking essential maintenance both to the footpath routes and the wider Estate in general.
We are pleased the routes have been so popular and allowed so many to explore this previously hidden gem and look forward to welcoming you back in 2021. #lambtonpark #historicseatoftheearlsofdurham
A number of restoration projects are taking place A number of restoration projects are taking place behind the scenes at Lambton Park, funded by the redevelopment works taking place on part of the Estate.
One of the most intriguing projects will be the restoration of these stunning gates, which historically guarded the formal entrance to Lambton Castle. The gates, in an Eastern European style, are believed to be unique in the UK. We believe the gates were erected in the latter half of the 19th Century, but have been unable to establish who designed them, where they were made, or indeed which member of the Lambton family commissioned them. The gates will take 6 to 8 months to restore to their former glory. We are hopeful we may even find a maker’s mark as part of the process, which will help us to establish more of their history. #lambtonparkuk #historicpreservation #preservinghistory #historicseatoftheearlsofdurham #thisisdurham
